Mama, do you struggle to take time for yourself without the feeling of mom guilt taking over? Is your identity solely based on being a wife and a mother? How often do you head to the Mall to buy yourself something, plan a day out with the girls or go for a spa day?

Not often I hear you say…and why is that? When last have you done something for YOU?

I received many questions about ‘mom guilt’ and how to make more time for yourself. So I have dedicated a podcast episode to discuss why you feel like you need permission to take a girl’s trip or even just take some time out for yourself.

Grab and pen and paper because this is an episode you are going to want to take notes.

Why do I feel like I need to ask permission?

Well mama, the reason why you feel like you need permission for a girls’ trip is because it is something you haven’t done, so that guilt comes up. (Veronica Cisneros)

If you have put yourself on the back burner for years on end, it does feel strange to take time for yourself.

You may feel guilt, and seek external validation and permission, because you are unable to give it to yourself because you have not prioritized yourself for so long.

Practice trusting your partner

You can’t micromanage your entire marriage and family life in a healthy and loveable way because the essence of micromanaging is that either you are too afraid to not be in control, or that you do not trust your partner to share the caretaking with you.

Both of these aspects should be addressed in full for you to be able to have a healthy and respectful marriage and family life.

Does your husband feel supported as a husband? Probably not. Do you know why? Because you are too busy controlling everything. (Veronica Cisneros)

You are the designer of your life. If the layout of your life gives you grief and stress, then you can – and should – change it for the better.

If you have designed your life around serving your insecurities and desire to control things, then you will be stuck in unhealthy micromanaging patterns.

Practice self-validation

It is extremely important you practice that self-validation … that you work on that level of confidence and that sense of identity because you are so much more than being a mom. (Veronica Cisneros)

You are so much more than a mother and a wife. You are yourself as an individual before you are the different roles you play in people’s lives.

You must understand that about yourself, respect that, and validate who you are as a human being.

All you have to do is to decide that you are important.

Internal reflections

Ask yourself:

– Why is it so important that people need you?

– Why have you been so hesitant and allowed your husband to take over?

– Are you able to allow yourself the chance to rest?

–  How will having a short holiday benefit you and your mental health?

– What, exactly, do you feel guilty about?

Hello, my name is Veronica Cisneros, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist for over 7 years, a Group Private Practice owner, a Mother of 3, and married for over 20 years. I help housewives transform their marriage, communicate effectively and build confidence. Like you, I also struggled with cutting through the communication barriers. I felt like there was no reason for my husband and I to feel unhappy because we had it all. We just felt disconnected and our conversations were filled with avoidance, kids’ hobbies, and schedules.

I’ve helped plenty of couples in my private practice who struggled with similar issues. With my proven strategies and step-by-step skills, I’ve helped hundreds of women reignite their marriages. I am known for helping women step outside of their comfort zones, I don’t do bandaids, I only teach life-changing healing methods.
